When
Ignatius first asked me to participate in the weekly
rock climbing at Yishun SAFRA, I hesitated and was unsure
if I really want to go public with a group of AJ's.
For some queer reasons, I don't really want to look
like Spiderman.
Somehow,
I had this tremendous eagerness to go and I went. As
it turned out, almost all of us looked like any other
straight guys and being obvious in public was not in
my mind at all.
When
Ignatius told me that ALL the first timers made it to
the top, I suddenly had this morbid fear of not adding
to the statistics. And when a forty something Aunty
made it to the top, I knew darn sure I just had to do
it (talking about male chauvinism...).
When
I was about to climb, that 15ft (I think) wall somehow
looked inscrutably tall and I started to have this enormous
vertigo in me but I gave it a try, nonetheless. As I
was climbing towards the top, my legs were shivering
on a Richter scale of 10 but I gathered enough courage
(thanks to Ignatius for his shouting encouragement)
to finally reach the top.
For
a first timer, the sense of satisfaction for reaching
the top is Really Something. All glories to Ignatius,
Leslie and Keith for be-laying (is that how you term
it?) the climbers and Ben for taking those photos.
I strongly recommend it to
all those who are still unsure and contemplating of
going. I'm definitely looking forward to
the next session if time permits. Once again, Well Done
Guys! Dan

Sunday
afternoon ... My climb, just nice ... lots of people
around ... "You're not coming down until you reach the
top!" Ignatius screeches. Bitch. Hands and arms cramping,
I make my way to the top, just after Dan. I reach the
top!!! "Let me down now!!!" "No, you have to climb to
the top!" Leslie teases. "You let me down or I pee on
all of you!" I shout back. Leslie complies and I am
glad to be on good solid ground. ..........End of day,
everyone climbed at least once, some twice and a few,
thrice. Others, I lost count. Met lots of nice people,
remember like two names.
Tired, but satisfied.
Felt a sense of achievement, that someone as chicken
as me managed to overcome my fear enough to climb up
that wall. The enemy has been defeated! All is well,
and we got home, expecting to live happily ever after..
until .... I look in the mirror and scream in horror!
Such
a terrible sight I have never in my life beheld. A tank
top tan! On top of a t-shirt tan!
