For
the first time, the gay communities in Singapore
and Malaysia are coming together to co-run a yearly
challenge sports event - The Straits Game.
The
Straits Game (TSG) is a three-day event (18th
- 20th October) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Organized by two social groups in Singapore and
Malaysia, MenAfterWork (MAW) and LPG, its aim
is to promote better relationships between the
gay communities in these two countries.
Like
the Chinese say, bu da bu xiang shou (if you don't
fight, you won't know each other). So this event
will feature competitions that will pit volunteers
from the two countries against each other. What
will they be fighting for? The coveted Challenge
Trophy, which the winners will keep in their country
until the next year.
This
year, TSG will include Volleyball and Bowling
as the competitive events. There are plans to
include other games in future, if the turnout
is promising, so do lend your support.
While
the main events are the competitions, there will
also be shopping, touring and a cultural night,
which will help the visitors from Singapore get
to know Malaysia and the local gay community.
TSG
promises fun, laughter and memorable moments.
It is not unknown for long and lasting friendships
to form over weekends, and TSG may prove to be
the very place and event where many friendships
will be forged between the two communities.
